Smart Communications Inc., in partnership with global tech leader Thales, has introduced the Smart Prepaid and TNT Multi SIM solution—an industry-first innovation enabling eSIM functionality on non-eSIM capable handsets.
Building on Smart’s pioneering introduction of prepaid eSIMs for compatible phones in the Philippines, this new Multi SIM aims to broaden digital inclusion by serving the majority of Filipino users who do not own eSIM-enabled devices.
The Multi SIM operates like a regular SIM card, with its own mobile number, and works on non-eSIM Android phones (Android 9 and above). Users simply insert the SIM, download the Smart Multi SIM app from Google Play, and can then add both local and international eSIM profiles, offering greater flexibility and convenience.
Lloyd Manaloto, Smart’s First VP for Corporate Marketing & Strategy, highlighted the move as a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity for overseas workers, travelers, and multi-line users. Jon Cahilig, head of sales for mobile connectivity solutions at Thales Asia, emphasized that this innovation democratizes access to eSIM technology without requiring an eSIM-compatible handset.
The launch cements Smart’s role as a digital pioneer in the Philippine market and showcases Thales’ expertise in expanding eSIM functionality to a wider range of devices.
