DOTr confirms Cebu airports, seaports safe after 6.9 magnitude quake

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Wednesday that all airports and seaports in Cebu remain safe and fully operational following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered immediate inspections of these facilities to verify the safety for personnel and passengers. Inspection teams from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and Philippine Ports Authority reported no visible damage, with all transport services continuing as usual.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said, “So far, no damage has been reported, and services continue uninterrupted. We will continue to monitor all DOTr facilities closely.”

In response, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is deploying the BRP Teresa Magbanua with medical teams and emergency equipment to affected areas. Additionally, eight search-and-rescue K9 units and water desalinators will be sent to address water supply needs in hospitals and evacuation centers.

The DOTr remains in close coordination with local authorities and agencies to ensure public safety amid ongoing monitoring of the situation.
