The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s TYM Corporation to advance farm mechanization efforts in the Philippines.
Formalized on October 1, the partnership aims to strengthen agricultural modernization through technical training, equipment sharing, and potential industrial development initiatives.
Key components of the agreement include the establishment of a PhilMech Academy on Postharvest and Mechanization, supported by a donated cross-section of a TYM farm tractor for educational use. TYM will also provide advanced technical training for PhilMech engineers over the next five years, with selected Filipino trainees invited to South Korea under the TYM Certified Engineer Program.
FIT Corea Trading Philippines Inc., TYM’s local representative, will oversee project implementation, while trained PhilMech personnel are expected to re-train field technicians, especially Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund beneficiaries, on proper equipment use.
In addition, TYM plans to invest in an integrated parts and service center in the Philippines, aimed at improving after-sales support, spare parts availability, and building local technical capacity.
TYM Corp., a global agricultural equipment manufacturer, operates in over 40 countries.
