Century Pacific expands coconut venture in Mindanao

Century Pacific Food Inc. (CNPF) is deepening its footprint in the global coconut industry with a USD45 million (P2.6 billion) investment to acquire and upgrade a coconut processing facility in Tupi, South Cotabato, as demand for coconut-based products surges worldwide.

The move comes as global consumer trends continue shifting toward healthier, wellness-oriented products, with coconut milk, cream, virgin oil, and water topping the list. The Philippines, as one of the world’s largest coconut producers, is strategically positioned to meet this rising demand—with CNPF emerging as a key player both locally and abroad.

The acquired facility already produces high-value coconut derivatives, but Century Pacific plans to expand product lines and improve processing efficiency. Enhancements will be funded by internally generated cash flows and are expected to boost the company’s capacity to serve both export and domestic markets.

Beyond boosting production, the acquisition is expected to create around 800 quality manufacturing jobs in Mindanao, reinforcing CNPF’s commitment to inclusive growth and regional development.

Noel Tempongko, Jr., vice president and general manager of CNPF’s OEM Coconut Exports, said the investment in South Cotabato is a milestone in the company’s coconut business. “It allows us to serve global markets better while providing economic opportunities in local communities. More importantly, it helps us deliver affordable, better-for-you nutrition to consumers.”

CNPF acquired the Tupi coconut processing facility from Roxas Sigma Agriventures Inc., a 95 percent owned subsidiary of listed Roxas and Co. The facility sits on a 2.2-hectare property. The buyer is CNPF’s unit Coco Harvest Inc.

CNPF entered the coconut space in 2012 as an OEM exporter of coconut water and has since diversified its product portfolio. It launched its own branded coconut line in 2019 to tap into the domestic wellness market and now serves partners across Southeast Asia.

With its latest move, CNPF is poised to ride the coconut wave—with Mindanao as its springboard.
