GCash investigates claims of user data leak

GCash said Monday it is looking into an online post claiming that user information is being sold on the dark web.

The company stressed that user security and privacy are its top priority and that it has launched an investigation with cybersecurity experts and authorities.

“Initial findings show that the alleged dataset does not match the data structure used within GCash systems,” the company said. It added that the data includes non-GCash users and invalid entries, suggesting it did not come from GCash.

GCash confirmed there is no evidence of any system breach and that all customer accounts and funds remain secure. The company is coordinating with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, National Privacy Commission, and Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center to verify the claims.

Users are urged to report any suspicious activity through official GCash channels. The company said it remains committed to protecting customer data and maintaining the trust of millions of Filipinos.
