PLDT leads push for trusted digital transactions in PH

PLDT Enterprise has joined forces with global mobile industry body GSMA and key regulators—including the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), National Privacy Commission (NPC), and National Telecommunications Commission (NTC)—to launch SmartSafe, the country’s first telco-enabled fraud management API suite globally certified by GSMA.

Unveiled during International Fraud Awareness Month, the initiative highlights a shared commitment to strengthening the nation’s digital trust framework.

“We are honored to launch SmartSafe alongside partners who are all united by a shared goal: a digital Philippines built on trust, safety, and innovation,” said Blums Pineda, PLDT and Smart’s senior vice president and head of enterprise business group.

At the core of SmartSafe is SmartSafe SilentAccess, a flagship solution that authenticates users in real time through Smart Communications’ nationwide network—eliminating the need for SMS-based one-time passwords (OTPs) and providing faster, simpler, and more secure logins and transactions. “Security is not just a technical requirement—it is the foundation for safe and sustainable growth,” Pineda said. “With SmartSafe SilentAccess, we are proud to be the first in the country to deliver the safest telco-powered authentication solution available today.”

The SmartSafe suite will soon expand to include tools such as NetIdentity, GeoCheck, RoamStatus, and KYCPlus, enabling businesses to verify SIM authenticity, determine real-time network location, confirm roaming activity, and enhance identity verification.

Developed in partnership with Nabstract, a GSMA Open Gateway Channel Partner, SmartSafe equips enterprises with real-time access to advanced security tools and APIs that prevent fraud and protect customer accounts.

“SmartSafe represents leadership in action: we are protecting end-users, empowering industries, and shaping a digital ecosystem where trust is the standard,” Pineda added.

The initiative reinforces PLDT Group’s broader mission of building a smarter, safer, and more connected Philippines—advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those on industry innovation and infrastructure, economic growth, digital trust, and partnerships.
