PLDT Inc. is stepping up efforts to enhance digital access in state universities and colleges (SUCs) as it joins the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) and other major telcos in a new nationwide connectivity initiative. The program, aligned with government priorities and presented to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is being implemented in coordination with the DICT and CHED.
Under the “Konektadong CHED” project, PLDT aims to expand high-speed connectivity to 220 SUCs by the first quarter of 2026, ultimately targeting all 555 institutions nationwide. Each connected campus is expected to benefit 5,000–10,000 students and educators. The effort builds on a 2022 partnership with the UNDP, which saw PLDT deploy 1,000 free Wi-Fi access points across 220 public HEIs, including 61 of the country’s 113 main SUCs.
“Digital connectivity to all educational institutions has become a key factor towards national progress,” said PLDT COO and PSAC representative Menardo G. Jimenez, emphasizing the telco sector’s unified support for the government’s digital education push.
PLDT’s involvement reinforces its commitment to national development, particularly in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goal on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), through stronger digital infrastructure and improved access to essential services like education.
