Filipino freelancers can now access their international earnings faster and with fewer fees following the launch of GCash’s Virtual US Account.
The new feature allows freelancers to receive USD payments directly, in real time, and at competitive forex rates, addressing long-standing issues with platform fees, conversion charges, and delayed payouts.
For years, freelancers have had to contend with deductions and multi-day waiting periods before their earnings reached their accounts. With the Virtual US Account, funds are reflected instantly, eliminating the usual 1–3 day cash-out delays. Users also gain control over currency conversion, allowing them to convert USD to PHP at the most favorable rates.
The service, powered by US-based fintech Meridian1, provides each freelancer with their own ACH and wire routing numbers, which can be shared directly with international clients for seamless payment transfers. This removes the need for costly intermediaries and streamlines access to earned income.
Funds received through the account can be withdrawn directly to the user’s GCash wallet, ready to use for bills, groceries, or investing in work equipment.
“With over 2 million Filipino freelancers working with international clients, they are a major force in today’s economy,” said Paul Albano, General Manager for GCash International. “The GCash Virtual US Account removes barriers so freelancers can keep the full value of what they earn and access it instantly.”
The launch reinforces GCash’s mission to provide financial solutions that empower Filipino workers, from everyday consumers to the country’s growing community of remote and independent professionals. Early adoption indicates strong interest, signaling that faster, cheaper, and more transparent payment options are in demand in the local freelancing market.
This innovation positions GCash at the forefront of digital financial services supporting the Philippines’ expanding gig economy.
