DOTr extends train services for Christmas season rush

The Department of Transportation announced Monday that the LRT-2 will extend its operating hours from December 9 to 30 to accommodate late-night commuters during the holiday rush, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to keep rail lines open longer this Christmas season.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the one-hour extension will not affect maintenance and safety routines.

Starting December 9, the last train from Antipolo will leave at 10 p.m., while the last train from Recto will depart at 10:30 p.m. The same schedule applies on Christmas Day. Services will shorten on December 24, with final trips at 8 p.m. from Antipolo and 8:30 p.m. from Recto, and on December 31, with last trips at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively. Regular operations resume January 1.

MRT-3 will also adjust its holiday operations. On December 24 and 31, the last trains will leave North Avenue at 7:45 p.m. and Taft Avenue at 8:23 p.m. On December 25 and January 1, operations begin at 6:30 a.m., with the final northbound train at 10:30 p.m. and the last southbound trip at 11:09 p.m.
