BPI launches leave donation program for employees with serious illnesses

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has launched a Leave Donation Program that allows employees to donate unused vacation leave to co-workers dealing with serious or life-threatening illnesses. The program was introduced in December 2025 and aims to help affected employees take time off for treatment, hospitalization, or recovery.

Under the program, donated leave credits are placed in a centralized pool managed by BPI’s Human Resources team. Employees diagnosed with any of 14 covered critical illnesses, including cancer, stroke, major heart conditions, and renal failure, may apply for support. Participation is voluntary, with donations accepted every December and leave credits allocated to qualified recipients in the following year, subject to guidelines and medical review.

BPI chief human resource officer Gina Eala said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting employees during difficult times. The Leave Donation Program adds to BPI’s existing benefits, such as medical insurance, additional cancer care leave, and other health support programs, reinforcing its focus on employee well-being.
