Spanish firm hires Chinese contractor for 180-MW Cebu solar project

Spanish renewable energy company Acciona Energia has signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Power Construction Corp. of China for its 180-megawatt Daanbantayan solar project in Cebu.

Acciona said the project will cost about ₱7 billion and is scheduled for completion by December 2026. The solar farm qualified for incentives under the fourth round of the government’s Green Energy Auction (GEA4) and is being developed through a public-private partnership with the Cebu provincial government.

The Cebu project is part of the 281 MW of renewable energy capacity Acciona secured under GEA4, which also includes the 101-MW Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna. The company said it has more than 2,000 MW of projects in development in the Philippines as it continues to expand following the government’s move to allow full foreign ownership of renewable energy projects.
