Toyota Philippines accelerates electrification with multi-pathway gains

Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) posted a strong 45-percent surge in electrified vehicle (xEV) sales from January to November 2025, signaling growing acceptance of its multi-pathway approach to cleaner mobility.

The company sold 16,986 xEV units in the 11-month period, up from 11,714 units a year earlier, with Toyota models accounting for 15,455 units and the rest from Lexus.

Hybrids continue to anchor Toyota’s electrification drive, led by the Corolla Cross HEV and Yaris Cross HEV, which emerged as the brand’s top-selling electrified models.

TMP said demand momentum is expected to carry into 2026 as it broadens its xEV lineup and lowers entry barriers for Filipino motorists.

A key catalyst is the launch of the Toyota ATIV Hybrid Electric Vehicle, now the most affordable electrified model in Toyota’s local portfolio.

Priced from P1.19 million for the top HEV variant, the ATIV HEV delivers fuel efficiency of up to 31.3 kilometers per liter under UN Regulation No. 101 testing, positioning it as a mass-market gateway to hybrid ownership.

TMP is also stepping into full battery electric vehicles with the December 2025 arrival of the bZ4X, Toyota’s first BEV in the Philippines. Alongside existing Lexus BEVs such as the RZ and UX, the move underscores Toyota’s “Beyond Zero” vision while acknowledging varied consumer readiness and infrastructure realities.

For now, TMP sees self-charging hybrids as the most practical solution for the Philippine market, given limited public charging networks. To support early BEV adopters, the company is installing charging stations at select dealerships in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, with nationwide expansion planned.

Toyota’s gains mirror the broader market upswing. The Department of Energy projects total xEV sales to hit 50,000 units by end-2025, more than double 2024 levels, with registrations up 356 percent year-to-date through September.

Aligned with Toyota Motor Asia’s regional targets, TMP aims to balance gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric offerings—delivering flexibility while supporting the government’s goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 75 percent by 2030.
