    Electric taxis take charge quietly

In a city defined by traffic jams, fuel price shocks, and marathon commutes, Metro Manila’s transport problem rarely lacks bold ideas—only workable ones.

Electric taxis, it turns out, may be one of the few solutions that don’t need a grand sales pitch.

Green GSM, the country’s first all-electric taxi fleet, is making the case for e-mobility not as a flashy disruption, but as a business model that simply works.

For drivers, the economics are straightforward. Electric vehicles cut out fuel costs entirely and reduce maintenance expenses, turning daily operations into something far more predictable.

Metro Manila driver Benedick Ferreras says the shift has simplified his finances. With no fuel to budget for and fewer mechanical worries, savings are easier to track, he said.

Fellow driver Carlo Monti Galano adds that lower charging costs ease day-to-day pressure, leaving more room for family spending and fewer surprises at month’s end. In an industry where margins are thin, cost stability is a competitive advantage.

Passengers feel the difference in subtler ways.

Green GSM’s VinFast electric vehicles offer a quieter, smoother ride—no engine noise, no fumes, no lingering odors. For daily commuters, those details matter. A calm, consistent ride reduces the mental tax of long hours on congested roads.

As one passenger put it, the best trips are the ones you barely notice.

From a business perspective, Green GSM’s strategy is less about evangelizing green transport and more about execution. Investments in charging infrastructure, digital booking platforms, and safety features such as its Secure to Safe system point to a focus on reliability and trust. That matters in a market where convenience often trumps ideals.

Electric taxis won’t solve Metro Manila’s congestion overnight. But by lowering costs for drivers and improving ride quality for passengers, Green GSM shows how e-mobility can move from aspiration to everyday utility—quietly reshaping urban transport, one practical trip at a time.
