NGCP to complete P18.5-B grid projects in 2026

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will complete seven major transmission projects worth at least P18.5 billion in 2026 to strengthen grid reliability and support rising electricity demand.

Among the key projects are the P8.1-billion Tuy 500/230-kilovolt (kV) substation and transmission line in Batangas and Cavite, and the P4.2-billion Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay 138kV line in Aklan. Also set for completion are the Tuguegarao-Lal-lo 230kV line (P2.4 billion), Amlan-Dumaguete 138kV line (P1.9 billion), the second phase of the Visayas substation reliability project (P1.02 billion), the Tacurong-Kalamansig 69kV line (P757.98 million), and steel pole relocations along the Hermosa-Duhat 230kV line (P123.84 million).

NGCP said the projects will improve grid stability, accommodate new power plants, including renewables, and address load growth across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The company also urged government agencies and local units to speed up permit approvals to avoid delays.

Meanwhile, NGCP reported a 13.55 percent increase in its overall transmission rate for January 2026 to P1.5279 per kilowatt-hour, which will be reflected in February bills. Ancillary service charges rose 12 percent, while the transmission wheeling rate increased 14.2 percent.

NGCP said ancillary service costs are pass-through charges and do not generate income for the company.
