Manila Water has started commissioning its newly built Pinugay Septage Treatment Plant (SpTP) in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City, as part of efforts to improve wastewater services in the East Zone.
The P141-million facility is designed to treat septic waste more effectively and reduce pollution flowing into rivers and other natural waterways. This supports environmental protection and helps safeguard public health for communities in the area.
Located on a 2,050-square-meter site along Pinugay Road, the plant uses modern treatment systems to process collected septic waste. These systems remove harmful bacteria and other pollutants to ensure wastewater is safely treated before discharge. The facility can treat up to 100 cubic meters of septage per day.
The plant is expected to benefit more than 143,000 residents in the towns of Baras, Teresa, Cardona, Jala-Jala, and Morong by providing safer and more reliable sanitation services.
Aside from improving wastewater treatment, the project also generated jobs during construction and is expected to continue supporting local employment as it moves toward full operations.
Manila Water said the new facility reflects its partnership with local governments and its commitment to delivering reliable sanitation services while protecting the environment and supporting community health.
