Japan turns over equipment to PCG to boost patrol operations

Japan has provided 13 generators with trailers to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to help improve the operational readiness of its patrol vessels.

The equipment was formally handed over on March 6, 2026, during a ceremony attended by Minister for Economic Affairs YOKOTA Naobumi.

The generators, provided through Japan’s official development assistance (ODA), will supply power to PCG patrol vessels while they are docked. This will reduce the workload on the ships’ onboard generators and help improve the vessels’ operational availability.

In his remarks, Yokota said the assistance reflects Japan’s continued support for maritime safety cooperation with the Philippines. He added that Japan aims to further strengthen ties through a comprehensive approach that combines equipment support, technical expertise, and joint exercises between the two sides.
