Seaside living, steady connection: A senior finds joy in simple, connected life

In a world that often feels rushed and overwhelming, many people dream of slowing down and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. For Nomar Sorensen, that dream is already a reality.

Living quietly in the seaside village of Balatero, Nomar spends her days tending to her garden, resting when she pleases, and enjoying time at home. Her routine is simple—but meaningful.

“Ang routine ko ay dito lang sa bahay, mag-ga-garden sa likod, at ‘pag pagod na ako, magpapahinga ako at magbubukas ng TV,” she shared. Sometimes, she is joined by her grandchild in the evenings when the child’s parents are at work.

While many younger people are only beginning to embrace a slower, more intentional lifestyle, Nomar has long been living it. And recently, her peaceful routine has been made even better with a reliable and affordable internet connection.

When Surf2Sawa, Converge’s prepaid fiber service with no data cap, became available in Oriental Mindoro in 2024, Nomar quickly signed up. The switch from mobile data to prepaid fiber turned out to be a practical and budget-friendly decision.

She recalled how costly mobile data used to be. Small amounts would run out quickly, forcing her to reload frequently. Now, with a monthly plan, she enjoys consistent access without worrying about extra expenses.

At home, the internet has become part of her daily life. She watches her favorite shows and movies, listens to music, and keeps up with the news. Whether she’s cleaning the house or working in the garden, she often plays music in the background.

“Hindi ako nababagot. Nalilibang ang katawan ko, nalilibang ang isip ko, at masaya ako,” she said.

What some might see as a quiet or even lonely life is far from it. Nomar has found companionship and joy through her online activities—especially on TikTok.

She spends time dancing and singing on the platform, sharing videos that have gained attention from viewers.

“Maganda talaga yung connection lalo na ‘pag nagti-Tiktok ako. Tuloy-tuloy ang sayaw ko doon,” she said with a laugh, adding that some viewers even mistake her for being much younger.

For Nomar, these moments are more than just entertainment. They help her stay active, relaxed, and connected to others, even from the comfort of her home.

Her experience has also influenced those around her. Satisfied with the service, she has encouraged neighbors and family members to make the switch as well. Many have followed her lead.

In her quiet corner of Puerto Galera, Nomar proves that a happy life doesn’t need to be complicated. With a simple routine, a positive outlook, and a steady internet connection, she has found her own version of balance—one that blends old-fashioned living with modern convenience.
