SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC) has named industry veteran Sherwin Lucas as general manager of SMX Convention Center Manila, entrusting him as well with leading the rollout of SMXCITE (SMX Center for International Trade and Exhibitions), the company’s flagship venue slated to rise within the Mall of Asia Complex by 2027.
The appointment places Lucas at the center of SMHCC’s expansion in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector, as the Philippines aims to capture a larger share of high-profile international events.
Lucas brings more than two decades of experience in hospitality and events management. He most recently served as area general manager for Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo and Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod, where since 2021 he has overseen multi-property operations and driven growth across key Visayas markets.
He began his career at Olympia Courtyard Suites and steadily advanced through the ranks of global hotel groups, taking on senior leadership roles in events and operations. As director of event services at Sheraton Grand Macao and The St. Regis Macao, he received the APAC Regional Event Leadership Award in 2016.
Lucas holds commerce degrees from the University of Muntinlupa and the University of the Philippines.
“In my new role, I am committed to sustaining the growth of SMX Convention Center Manila by advancing operational excellence, innovation, and client experience, while reinforcing its leadership in the MICE industry,” Lucas said.
He added that a key priority will be the successful debut of SMXCITE in 2027, envisioned as a world-class venue for international trade fairs, exhibitions, and large-scale events—further strengthening the Philippines’ position in the global MICE market.
