East Service Road upgrades pave future connectivity

Construction has officially commenced along the East Service Road near Arca South in Taguig City, signaling the start of preparatory infrastructure works designed to support major transport projects shaping southern Metro Manila.

The road works began on April 20, and are expected to continue through October 2026, affecting the section in Barangay Western Bicutan.

According to local authorities, the initiative aims not only to improve immediate road capacity and traffic flow but also to lay foundational infrastructure for upcoming regional transport developments.

A central focus of this project is the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME), also known as Skyway Stage 4. This 32.66-kilometer elevated expressway will link Taguig City to Quezon City, offering motorists an alternative to the congested EDSA and C-5 corridors.

Project SEMME could handle up to 150,000 vehicles per day, potentially reshaping commuting patterns across Metro Manila by significantly reducing travel times.

The road improvements also dovetail with preparations for the Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange (TCITX), a proposed intermodal hub designed to streamline bus, public utility vehicle, and commuter transfers.

The combination of SEMME and TCITX is expected to enhance connectivity between expressways and mass transit networks, signaling a step toward a more integrated urban transport system.

In the short term, residents, commuters, and developments like Arca South may face construction-related disruptions. However, long-term benefits include improved access to major business districts such as Makati, Bonifacio Global City, and Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Urban planning experts note that these improvements could reinforce Arca South’s strategic role as a transit-oriented mixed-use district, boosting mobility, commuter convenience, and connectivity across eastern and southern Metro Manila.

The project exemplifies how incremental infrastructure upgrades can catalyze broader urban development and economic activity in high-growth areas.
