AdventEnergy, the retail arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation, has secured an 896-kilowatt power supply contract with Viking Cold Storage Inc., strengthening its presence in Mindanao’s fast-growing cold chain industry.
Viking operates a 1-hectare facility in Bunawan, Davao City, fitted with freezers, chillers, advanced refrigeration and monitoring systems, and blast freezers. Strategically situated near key transport hubs and the city center, it serves businesses needing temperature-controlled storage to preserve goods.
This partnership follows the 2024 rollout of the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program in the region, which lets eligible users pick their power provider directly. Reliable power is vital for the cold chain sector, which plays a key role in keeping food safe and reducing waste—an area backed by government support, including a P3-billion allocation from the Department of Agriculture in 2025 for new storage sites.
For AdventEnergy, this adds to its growing list of cold chain clients, which already includes Frabelle Cold Storage facilities in Navotas. Viking’s leadership noted that choosing a retail supplier ensures stable, cost-effective energy to maintain high service standards.
