The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the Department of Transportation, the Light Rail Transit Authority, and RCBC has launched the LRT-2 digital fare payments proof-of-concept at Legarda Station, giving commuters faster and more convenient payment options. Commuters may now use debit, credit and prepaid cards, NFC-enabled devices like Google Pay, GCash QR codes, and My SSS cards to pay for rides. This builds on similar systems already in place at MRT-3 and the EDSA Busway, with more transport lines set to follow under the national automated fare collection project. Officials say the move cuts waiting times, expands financial inclusion, and brings the country’s public transit in line with global standards.
