The Department of Transportation announced this week that the newly upgraded passenger terminal building at the Port of Lucena will expand capacity and support tourism, business, and maritime travel across Southern Luzon. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, and Philippine Ports Authority general manager Jay Santiago recently inspected the facility ahead of its official opening next month. Serving as a key gateway for Quezon, Romblon, and Marinduque, the terminal now seats 967 passengers—up from the previous 607—to meet growing demand for travel to island destinations in the region.
Officials noted that the modern design will deliver a more comfortable and seamless experience for all travelers. Secretary Lopez stated the project unlocks greater economic potential for Quezon province, adding that the high standard set here will serve as a model for port improvements nationwide, in line with the President’s push for better public infrastructure. PPA chief Jay Santiago explained the expansion was made specifically to accommodate rising visitor numbers, ensuring the port can reliably serve the increasing flow of passengers heading to and from nearby provinces.
