Citi bets on Philippines as global investment hub grows

Citi has reaffirmed the Philippines’ strategic role within its global network, pointing to the country’s expanding investment opportunities, deeper capital markets and enduring client relationships as key reasons behind its continued commitment to one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economies.

During a media roundtable, Citi Philippines Chief Executive Officer and Banking Head Paul Favila, Corporate Banking Head Manish Bajaj and Markets Head Wilmer Bautista said the bank remains optimistic about the country’s long-term prospects as economic reforms and stronger investor interest continue to reshape the financial landscape.

For nearly 125 years, Citi has served public and private sector clients in the Philippines, helping businesses navigate economic cycles while connecting local corporations, financial institutions and government agencies to international capital through its global network.

The bank recently reinforced that role by hosting a Philippine investor roundtable at its New York headquarters, bringing together Finance Secretary Frederick Go, National Treasurer Sharon Almanza, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Zeno Abenoja, Philippine Consul General Senen Mangalile and global investors to discuss the country’s economic outlook and emerging investment opportunities.

Citi also highlighted its continued investments in digital banking after being recognized by Euromoney as the Best Digital Bank for Large Corporates in the Philippines, reflecting its push to provide technology-driven financial solutions for institutional clients.

“The progress Citi is delivering today reflects years of purposeful investment and consistent execution,” Favila said.

“Leveraging the strength of our global network and institutional banking platform, we remain committed to delivering value for our clients and supporting the Philippines’ continued growth and development,” he added.

The bank’s confidence is backed by strong global momentum. Citi posted its strongest quarterly revenue performance in a decade, with second-quarter revenues rising 14 percent and four of its five core businesses recording double-digit growth.

The results strengthen Citi’s capacity to connect global capital with high-growth markets, reinforcing the Philippines’ position as an increasingly important destination for international investors seeking opportunities across banking, infrastructure, capital markets and corporate finance.
