Amid more complex and linked online risks, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has urged all sectors to work together to boost defenses against digital fraud. The call was made during its CyberProtect Conference held July 30 at Fairmont Makati with the theme “Defend as One: Building a United Front Towards Consumer Protection.”
Gathering over 250 leaders from government, law enforcement, banking, academe, and private groups, the summit pushed for shared plans to raise collective cyber resilience. Held as part of BPI’s 175th anniversary, this year’s event added a dedicated training session for law enforcement and focused industry talks.
BPI president and CEO TG Limcaoco said strong defense rests on three pillars: capable institutions, alert consumers, and close cooperation. “Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical concern—it is a consumer, business, and national matter,” he noted.
Speakers included officials from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Department of Information and Communications Technology, and National Privacy Commission. Sessions covered scam awareness, fraud prevention, and cybercrime probes. Attendance has risen steadily since the event began, reflecting growing urgency to keep Filipinos safe online.
