The Bureau of Customs (BOC) collected a record P95.848 billion in July, its highest monthly revenue haul on record, as stronger customs enforcement and improved trade facilitation continued to bolster government revenues.
Speaking at a Palace briefing, Press Undersecretary Claire Castro cited a report from Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, saying the agency surpassed its previous monthly collection record.
“Sabi po ni Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno na ang Bureau of Customs ay muling nagtala ng pinakamataas na buwanang koleksyon. Noong Hulyo ay umabot ito sa P95.848 billion,” Castro said.
The BOC also sustained its momentum during the first seven months of the year. Preliminary data showed collections reached P591.526 billion from January to July, exceeding the P581.18 billion recorded in the same period last year.
“At ayon sa paunang datos, ang koleksyon ng Bureau of Customs mula Enero hanggang Hulyo ay umabot na sa P591.526 billion, mas mataas kumpara sa P581.18 billion na nakolekta sa kaparehong panahon noong nakaraang taon,” Castro said.
The Palace attributed the stronger performance to the government’s efforts to improve customs administration, tighten border controls and streamline trade processes, enabling the BOC to raise revenues while facilitating the flow of legitimate commerce.
Castro said the higher collections would provide additional fiscal space to fund priority government programs.
“Ang mas mataas na koleksyon ay nangangahulugan ng mas maraming pondo para sa mahahalagang programa ng pamahalaan, kabilang ang social welfare, disaster response, imprastraktura, at iba pang serbisyong panlipunan,” she said.
The BOC has intensified anti-smuggling operations while accelerating digitalization and process reforms to improve compliance and reduce leakages. The record July collections suggest these initiatives are beginning to translate into stronger revenue performance, reinforcing the agency’s role in supporting the government’s fiscal position while balancing stricter enforcement with more efficient trade facilitation.
