MANILA — Globe Telecom Inc. is accelerating its nationwide 5G expansion, boosting infrastructure spending this year to keep up with growing demand for fast, reliable digital connectivity.
The Ayala-led firm poured P26.3 billion into capital expenditures in the first half of 2026 — a 39 percent jump from the same period in 2025. Roughly 91 percent of that budget went to data-focused upgrades: expanding capacity, improving service quality, and supporting rising use of mobile and digital services.
Outdoor 5G coverage now tops 98 percent of the population in Metro Manila and key cities across Visayas and Mindanao. The network has also reached at least 80 percent population coverage in non-major urban areas, bringing next-generation connectivity beyond the country’s largest hubs as data consumption rises nationwide.
“Our investments go beyond expanding capacity — they mean a better everyday experience for customers and more Filipinos gaining access to reliable, high-quality connectivity,” said Globe president and CEO Carl Cruz. “By extending our reach, we help close the digital divide and create opportunities for communities to participate in a connected future.”
Despite the increased spending, Globe targets to keep its full-year capital expenditures below $1 billion, balancing aggressive expansion with financial prudence.
Industry data from Ookla Speedtest Intelligence (covering late 2024 through mid-2026) shows the strategy delivering results: Globe earned four straight titles as Most Consistent Mobile Provider, two consecutive recognitions for Widest Mobile 5G Coverage, and two straight wins for Most Consistent Home Internet provider.
