Partnership powers key AGI properties with 25MW geothermal energy, advances 2035 carbon neutrality target
Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI) has formalized a partnership with First Gen Group to transition the power supply of its major properties and facilities across the country to renewable energy, marking a key step in the conglomerate’s sustainability and climate goals.
Signed August 13, the agreement will deliver over 25 megawatts of geothermal energy from First Gen’s Bacon-Manito facilities in Albay and Sorsogon to AGI sites in Metro Manila, Iloilo, Davao, and Laguna. Covered locations include Megaworld townships in Taguig, Venice Grand Canal Mall, ArcoVia City in Pasig, Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, Davao Finance Center, and Emperador Distillers plants in Santa Rosa and Biñan.
The shift is central to AGI’s “SustainAGIlity” framework, which aims to scale renewable energy use and reach carbon neutrality by 2035. “Electricity usage makes up a large part of our carbon emissions. Using more renewable energy to run our operations without sacrificing service or efficiency will cut our carbon footprint and move us closer to net zero,” said Arnulfo Batac, Megaworld Corporation’s sustainability head.
For AGI, the transition is both an environmental and business priority—aligning long-term operational stability with sustainable development objectives. First Gen chief customer engagement officer Carlo Vega noted the partnership goes beyond cost efficiency: “Working with forward-thinking organizations like AGI is a privilege. Geothermal energy, our only reliable baseload renewable source, is not just about optimizing costs—it’s about managing long-term risks and protecting the planet.”
AGI, established in 1993, holds leading positions across real estate, tourism, and beverages. First Gen is the country’s top renewable energy provider, operating 31 facilities across geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar with a total capacity exceeding 1,700 megawatts, under parent firm First Philippine Holdings Corporation.
