Visa and Maya have expanded their partnership to let users add Maya wallet cards to Google Wallet and use Google Pay across all Maya Visa cards—credit and wallet versions, both physical and virtual.
This follows an earlier rollout in November 2025 that covered only Maya credit cardholders, making Maya one of the first payment providers in the Philippines to offer this feature.
Now, anyone with a Maya wallet card can pay via Google Pay at shops, public transport stops, and tourist spots, giving Filipino consumers more flexible payment choices while encouraging more businesses to accept digital transactions.
All Google Pay transactions here run on Visa’s tokenization system, which replaces real card numbers with unique digital codes. This keeps actual account details from being shared with merchants or stored on devices, cutting down fraud significantly while keeping payments fast and trouble-free.
Jeffrey Navarro, Visa Philippines country manager, said the two firms are key drivers of the country’s fast shift toward contactless payments. He added that every such transaction builds trust in new technology and supports the government’s goal of a cash-lite economy. Maya Group president and co-founder Shailesh Baidwan stated the update delivers greater simplicity for daily spending, letting customers pay securely using the phones and devices they already carry everywhere.
Regional data shows more than 71 percent of consumers in Asia Pacific already prefer paying with mobile or smart devices in stores and online. The development also supports local tourism: Visa research finds 97 percent of travelers in the region favor cards over cash, with just 17 percent planning to carry cash when they travel. For commuters and daily users, this means faster, safer payments at transport terminals and retail points, while businesses stand to gain from smoother transactions and broader customer spending power.
