GCash campaigns turn digital engagement into climate action

GCash has received three honors at the 2026 Philippine Quill Awards for campaigns that used digital engagement to support environmental initiatives and raise public awareness of online scams.

The e-wallet operator received two Merit Awards and one Excellence Award for programs that, according to the company, mobilized 12,000 runners for environmental action, supported the planting of 128,000 trees and mangroves, and reached more than 1.5 million people through an anti-scam campaign.

Its “Driving Collective Climate Action Through GForest and EcoRun” initiative won an Excellence Award in Communication Management for corporate social responsibility.

The campaign extended GForest, GCash’s digital environmental advocacy program, into physical community activities. It mobilized 12,000 race participants and helped fund the planting of 76,000 trees and mangroves across the country. Corporate sponsorships supported an additional 52,000 trees, bringing the reported total to 128,000.

GCash also earned a Merit Award for its campaign addressing SMS spoofing scams involving International Mobile Subscriber Identity catcher technology, a relatively complex fraud threat that can be difficult for consumers to understand.

The campaign used the message “Basta may link, ’wag mong i-click!” and distributed short animated videos explaining the risks. GCash said the content generated more than 1.5 million organic views and a 22.6% engagement rate, which it reported was more than four times the industry benchmark.

GForest is integrated into the GCash app, allowing users to earn energy points through activities such as sending money and paying bills. The points are used to support tree-planting initiatives carried out with environmental partners and local communities.

“These recognitions are not just about winning awards—they are about proving that communication can drive real, positive change in people’s lives,” GCash Vice President for Corporate Sustainability and Communication Michelle Fernandez said.

The awards highlight how companies are increasingly using their digital platforms not only to engage customers but also to connect everyday online activity with environmental and consumer-protection initiatives.
