    India rates extend rally on low supplies; Thai prices ease

    Parboiled rice export prices from India extended their record rally this week, driven by tight supplies and firm demand due to higher prices in other hubs, while Thai rates slipped as new supply from fresh harvests trickled in.

    Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. has secured a commitment from Vietnam to supply the country with 1.5 – 2 million metric tons of white rice each year for five years. Laurel  has signed a memorandum of understanding with Minister Nguyen Hong Dien of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Viet Nam under an enhanced cooperation on rice trade with its neighbor.

    PH palay output hits record high of 20.06 million MT

    Palay production in 2023 reached 20.06 million metric tons, the highest-ever harvest of the Philippines’ national staple, helped by better weather conditions in the last quarter of 2023.
