GCash waives transaction fees for micro-merchants

GCash is leaving more on the table for nearly one million micro-merchants such as sari-sari store owners, online sellers, and public market vendors that use its scan-to-pay service.

The financial app of Globe Telecom Inc. said Thursday it is raising the e-wallet limit of its more than 845,000 micro-merchant customers to P500,000 and waived the 1.5 percent transaction fee for gross sales of up P100,000 and the QRPH transaction fee for those who use scan-to-pay service until year end.

E-wallets and other payment platforms charge as high as 2 percent for cashless transaction services such as QR-based and card payments.

“For GCash, making this service free means micro-entrepreneurs can earn a little extra for their families through safe cashless transactions,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, president and CEO at G-Xchange, Inc., the mobile wallet operator of GCash.

The GCash scan-to-pay service enables faster tracking of payments received from merchants without imposing any additional cost, even for their customers.

“We are one with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in its goal of bringing more micro-merchants into the digital economy. Together with our partners, we will equip micro, small, and medium enterprises with the right tools and products so they can grow their businesses safely and conveniently,” Reyes said.

GCash claims 81 million registered users and over 6 million merchants and social sellers.
