Cebu Pacific has kept its position and rated as the country’s leading domestic airline in the first six months this year, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board.
Data from CAB show Cebu Pacific and its unit Cebgo flew 7.6 million domestic passengers from January to June, followed by the Philippine Airlines and PAL Express with a combined 4.09 million domestic passengers. Budget carrier AirAsia Philippines ferried 2.53 million other passengers.
AirSwift Transport Inc. shipped 202,154 domestic passengers while Royal Air Charter Services Inc., Sunlight Air and Island Aviation Corp. flew 58,448 passengers, 23,820 passengers and 4,887 passengers, respectively.
The airline industry collectively flew total domestic passengers reaching 14.6 million domestic passengers from January to June, up 51 percent from 9.7 million in the same period last year.
Flag carrier PAL retained its status as the leading carrier of international travelers having flown 2.7 million passengers in the first six months this year. Cebu Pacific followed with only 906,090 international passengers and Philippines Air Asia with 477,616 international passengers.
Royal Air flew only 44,355 international passengers.
The foreign carriers ferried 4.80 million international passengers during the period. The aggregate number of international passengers reached 8.92 million in the first six months from 3.49 million international passenger last year.
