The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said that precautions have been taken and measures in place to minimize the impact of tropical depression (TD) Kabayan on its transmission operations and facilities.
NGCP said that preparations include ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damage to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic areas to facilitate immediate restoration work.
The company said its Integrated Disaster Action Plan prescribes such moves and other procedures to ensure the readiness of all power transmission facilities expected to be affected by the passage of the weather disturbance.
As of 1 p.m. Monday, the NGCP said its transmission lines and facilities are under normal operations amid TD Kabayan’s expected landfall in Mindanao.
Among the areas cited by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration likely as affected by the weather disturbance include the southern portions of Samar and Eastern Samar as well as Leyte, Southern Leyte, Bohol and Camotes Islands in Visayas.
Also likely to be affected are Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin as well as the northern portions of Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Bukidnon.
