The Regional Trial Court of Makati City has convicted a former officer of the closed Rural Bank of Mabini (Batangas), Inc. (RB Mabini) for violating the General Banking Law of 2000 and the New Central Bank Act.
The criminal case was based on the complaint filed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) against Rosalinda M. Beig, former cashier/treasurer of RB Mabini, who was found to have engaged in fraudulent transactions by creating a fictitious loan account under the name of one Graciano Bonado.
Beig pleaded guilty and was sentenced by the court to suffer the penalty of one year imprisonment.
The BSP continues to ensure compliance of supervised banks with the existing laws and regulations to maintain the soundness of the financial system and to safeguard public interest.
