Prime Water inaugurates Batangas septage treatment plant

Villar-led Prime Water has started the construction of a septage treatment plant (STP) in Batangas City capable of treating 80 cubic meters of wastewater per day and service the requirements of some 45,000 households and business establishments.

“With our wastewater treatment infrastructure, we can facilitate the proper treatment of wastewater collected from septic tanks before its responsible disposal into our waterways. This commitment highlights our dedication to protecting the quality of our water sources and prioritizing environmental sustainability,” said Vergel Angelo Paule, PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. sanitation and wastewater department head, said.

According to Paule, the STP fulfills the mandate of the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 which aims to boost water quality via a septage management system ensuring the maintenance of public health standards within communities.

The project will also allow consumer compliance to the mandate to de-sludge septic tanks every five years. Its completion will also mitigate health risks linked to untreated wastewater.

The STP consists of a septage acceptance and dewatering, filtrate treatment tanks and disinfection and other auxiliary buildings such as the blower and power generator area, chemical storage, control room and hazardous waste storage.

“Our septage treatment facility will not only provide consumers with desludging services, relieving them from the challenges of septic overflow but will also contribute significantly to building healthier and more sustainable communities,” Paule said.

Apart from the Batangas City STP, Prime Water also has ongoing projects in Pampanga, particularly in the city of San Fernando and in Guagua.

Prime Water plans similar projects in San Rafael, Bulacan; San Carlos, Pangasinan; Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Dasmarinas City, Cavite; and in Bacolod City.
