    Meralco subsidiary pursuing 67.75 MW solar projects in Luzon

    Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) renewable energy arm MGen Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen) has awarded engineering, procurement and construction contracts to SUMEC Complete Equipment and Engineering Co. Ltd. to build its solar power plants in Luzon.

    The contracts require the construction of 49-megawatt solar plant in Cordon, Isabela and another 18.75 MW solar farm in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija. The projects were won at the second round of the Green Energy Auction Program of the Department of Energy.

    MGreen targets the commercial operation of the solar plants by the first quarter of 2025. It has three operating solar plants the include the 55-MW PowerSource First Bulacan Solar Inc. in San Miguel, Bulacan owned in partnership with PowerSource Energy Holdings Corp.; the 68-MW Nuevo Solar Energy Corp. in Currimao, Ilocos Norte with Vena Energy’s Pasuquin Energy Holdings Inc.; and the 75-MW PH Renewables Inc. in Baras, Rizal with Mitsui & Co.’s Mit-Renewables Power Corp.

    In 2023 MGen proposed investing at least P18 billion to accelerate its renewable energy portfolio.

    The investment will cover over 2,000 MW from solar and wind pursued with partners up to 2030.
