UK planners helping Manila craft design standards for transport systems

The Philippines and the United Kingdom (UK) have strengthened their collaboration in improving the country’s transport system with the launch of the Transit Facility Design Standards (TFDS) program.

“It is really important that the government of the Philippines and the UK government share a vision, a vision for high-quality, passenger-focused, inclusive public transportation,” Laure Beaufils, UK Ambassador to the Philippines, said.

Under the TFDS, the DOTr will establish the criteria and guidelines in the planning, construction and maintenance of the country’s transit facilities. The DOTr-TFDS Committee oversee its implementation.

Transport Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said the TFDS will help shape the country’s transport infrastructure.

“The completion of TFDS stands as a testament to the success of our joint endeavors outlined in the UK-PH Joint Work Plan 2023-2024,” Bautista said.

“We share this commitment to elevate service standards, enhance accessibility, promote inclusivity, and foster sustainability in our transport networks,” he added.
