The Philippines has imported 2.3 million metric tons of rice in the first five months of the year, according to US Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimates.
The USDA in July reported that Vietnam accounted for 1.8 million MT of rice exported to the Philippines during the month.
“Due to rising global prices and tighter exportable supplies in Vietnam, the Philippines has shifted some purchases to other suppliers. Imports have exceeded 430,000 tons collectively from Thailand, Myanmar and Pakistan so far in 2024,” the USDA said.
