Aboitiz InfraCapital prepares P12.75 billion to modernize Laguindingan Airport

Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. is now preparing for the P12.75 billion modernization of the Laguindingan Airport in Mindanao, a major project that reinforces the status of the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group as a significant player in the Philippine aviation industry.

Aboitiz Infra on Monday secured from the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority the notice of award to upgrade, operate, and maintain the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental. The 30-year concession agreement is expected to be signed by the end of October.

“We are excited to take on revitalizing the Laguindingan Airport and collaborating with stakeholders to create a world-class facility that serves travelers and the community alike,” said Cosette V. Canilao, AIC president and chief executive officer.

Laguindingan Airport, the second busiest in Mindanao after Davao City’s Francisco Bangoy International Airport, will get a facelift that includes extensive renovation and expansion of existing facilities, focusing on the passenger terminal, equipment installation, and enhancements to both airside and landside operations over a 30-year concession period. These upgrades are expected to improve passenger experience, operational efficiency, and safety standards.

The investment in Laguindingan Airport aligns with AIC’s strategy of enhancing connectivity and spur economic growth in Northern Mindanao. AIC is committed to developing infrastructure assets that not only modernize transportation but also promote tourism and create jobs in the region.

“Airports are a force-multiplier in driving socio-economic progress,” said Rafael Aboitiz, AIC vice president and head of airports business. “We are confident that Laguindingan Airport will drive socio-economic progress in the region,” he added.

AIC draws from its experience operating the award-winning Mactan-Cebu International Airport, which recently earned a 4-star rating from Skytrax, a globally recognized aviation consultancy.
