St. Luke’s Medical Center–Global City has introduced the VisuMax 800 femtosecond laser system, expanding its range of advanced vision correction procedures and enabling laser treatment in seconds per eye.
Installed at the hospital’s Vision Laser Center in Taguig City, the system features ultra-fast laser delivery and automated centering designed to support surgical precision, patient comfort and recovery.
The technology supports SMILE Pro, a flapless procedure used to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. St. Luke’s said the procedure can be completed in less than 10 seconds per eye, reducing disruption to the eye’s natural structure.
The launch also featured a live PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision procedure performed by Prof. Dan Reinstein, a pioneer in laser eye surgery and inventor of the technique.
PRESBYOND is designed to address presbyopia, the natural age-related decline in near vision that commonly develops after age 40 and can increase dependence on reading glasses. The procedure adjusts each eye differently to create overlapping zones for near, intermediate and distance vision, potentially reducing reliance on corrective eyewear for everyday activities.
“The acquisition of the VisuMax 800 reflects our steadfast dedication to bringing globally benchmarked innovations right here to the Philippines,” said Dr. Irwin Cua, head of the hospital’s Vision Laser Center.
Cua said the system’s faster laser delivery and improved precision could enhance patient comfort and recovery.
Beyond SMILE Pro and PRESBYOND, the center offers photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), conventional LASIK and LASIK with PRESBYOND, giving patients multiple options depending on their vision needs.
St. Luke’s said prospective patients undergo comprehensive pre-surgery screening to determine the appropriate procedure based on their eye condition and lifestyle. This assessment helps clinicians identify which technology and treatment approach best fit each patient’s requirements.
