Marcos orders N. Luzon evacuation ahead of Kristine landfall

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the evacuation of northern provinces on the path of Tropical Storm Kristine, which is expected to make landfall tonight or early Thursday in either Isabela or Aurora.

Marcos said the government is marshaling all its assets to help people in the Bicol region, particularly in Camarines Sur where half of the 600 barangays are reportedly flooded.

“I’m a feeling a little helpless here….all we can do now is sit tight, wait, hope, pray that there is not too much damage, that there are no casualties. Then we go in as soon and as quickly as possible with as much as we can to alleviate the effects,” the President said in and NDRRMC briefing.

Meanwhile, Marcos said some dams in northern Luzon should preemptively release water to levels that could be tolerated by downstream communities.

The Government expects major damage to agriculture from TS Kristine.
