Globe Telecom, alongside its shared services arm, Asticom Technology Inc., has piloted the country’s first laser communications system, developed by Singapore’s Transcelestial Technologies Pte Ltd. The project aims to enhance high-speed connectivity across various sectors, including telecommunications, finance, and business process outsourcing (BPO).
The pilot took place at the Philippine Arena, where the CENTAURI laser communication devices were deployed to ensure seamless connectivity during a high-profile event attended by thousands. These compact devices establish a secure, high-speed laser network, eliminating the need for traditional fiber optics and facilitating rapid deployment in challenging environments.
“Laser communications hold immense promise for the future of high-speed, reliable connectivity, particularly in areas where deploying physical infrastructure is difficult,” said Joel Agustin, Globe head of service planning and engineering. “This technology not only accelerates deployment but also significantly enhances the network experience for our customers.”
Asticom’s general manager for engineering, Marc Kerveillant, emphasized the importance of their role in the implementation of this technology during the proof-of-concept demonstration. The trial rigorously assessed the CENTAURI system under various conditions to validate its effectiveness as a network backhaul solution.
Mohammad Danesh, co-founder and CTO of Transcelestial, highlighted the project as a model for future telecommunications infrastructure. “The Philippine Arena project represents more than just a successful connectivity solution; it’s a blueprint for agile telecommunications infrastructure deployment,” he noted.
Mharicar Castillo-Reyes, president and CEO of Asticom, expressed pride in this collaboration, stating, “Partnering with Transcelestial is a milestone in our mission to support innovation for Filipinos. We’re excited to implement these transformative technologies across the country.”
This partnership aligns with Globe’s commitment to leading the digital transformation of the Philippines. With the successful pilot of laser communications technology, Globe, Asticom, and Transcelestial are set to drive forward a more connected and technologically advanced future for the nation.
