PLDT Inc. and its wireless unit, Smart Communications Inc., are enhancing their network infrastructure in Mandaue City, Cebu, with the goal of empowering microentrepreneurs and fostering growth across various industries.
Roderick S. Santiago, first vice president and deputy network head at PLDT and Smart, said, “We are committed to accelerating our network expansion and enhancing our services in highly urbanized areas like Mandaue City.” He emphasized that the initiatives aim to support local entrepreneurs and improve customer experience while aligning with government initiatives.
Home to over 360,000 residents, Mandaue City serves as an industrial hub with approximately 10,000 commercial locators, making robust connectivity essential for businesses and the local community. Smart’s combined 5G and 4G network covers around 97 percent of the population, reinforcing the company’s commitment to expanding its services throughout the region.
Among those benefitting from this network enhancement is Katrina Serencio, an e-loading business owner from Brgy. Cambaro, who has operated her venture since 2010. “E-loading is a business I can run anywhere, as long as there is connectivity. It has been a substantial help, providing steady profits since I was a student,” Serencio said.
Her e-loading business not only supported her education but also helped cover her family’s expenses during financial hardships. Now, as an adult, it continues to be a vital source of income. Recently, she participated in the Smart-supported Digital Business Basics Training (DBBT) in Mandaue City, facilitated by Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired (ATRIEV). “I discovered the Maya Business App during the DBBT, and now I use it regularly in my e-loading business,” she said.
Serencio highlighted the importance of reliable connectivity for her operations, stating, “As someone who relies heavily on mobile connectivity, the improved data connection is great news for us micro-entrepreneurs. This development means I can depend on Smart’s stable connectivity to meet my customers’ needs.”
PLDT Group’s ongoing investments in network infrastructure and innovative services reflect their dedication to democratizing access to advanced technologies and enhancing customer experiences across the Philippines.
