Maynilad expands sewer network in Parañaque

Maynilad Water Services Inc. is enhancing its sewerage infrastructure in Parañaque City with the installation of 4.8 kilometers of new sewer lines projected for completion by the third quarter of 2025. The project, valued at ₱695 million, aims to improve wastewater management for over 35,000 residents in barangay La Huerta and San Dionisio

According to Maynilad, the new sewer lines will be laid along NIA Avenue, Radial Road, and Sucat Avenue. Once operational, wastewater will be transported to Maynilad’s Parañaque water management facility for treatment before it is safely discharged into the Kayboboy River, in compliance with environmental regulations.

Zmel Grabillo, Maynilad head of wastewater management, emphasized the complexity of the project, noting that sewer lines must be installed deeper than water pipelines, sometimes reaching depths of 14 meters. “This requires precise engineering and careful excavation,” he said.

To minimize community disruption, Maynilad is employing trenchless technology, which allows for the insertion of sewer pipes with minimal surface digging. This method helps to alleviate traffic congestion, as pipe-laying works can be conducted through small access points. Grabillo said that construction will take place at night, between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., with all trenches covered during the day to ensure safe passage for motorists and pedestrians.

Beyond Parañaque, Maynilad is actively expanding its sewerage network in several key cities, including Manila, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Bacoor, Las Piñas, Caloocan, and Quezon City. The company has earmarked ₱19 billion for the installation of 121 kilometers of new sewer lines from 2023 to 2027 as part of its ongoing wastewater infrastructure development.

Maynilad operates a sewer network of 651 kilometers and 23 wastewater facilities, boasting a combined treatment capacity of 684 million liters per day. As the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines, Maynilad serves a vast customer base across various cities and towns, reaffirming its commitment to improving sanitation services and protecting water bodies in its service area.
