Manila Electric Co., the country’s largest power distributor led by business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, has taken proactive steps to ensure reliable electricity during the May 12, 2025 midterm elections. The company recently participated in a mock election organized by the Commission on Elections, testing its readiness for potential power disruptions that could occur during the electoral process.
During the mock drill, Meralco crews simulated responses to issues such as downed power lines, loadside trouble, and fire-related outages. In one scenario, personnel quickly responded to a downed power line at a polling precinct in Makati High School, showcasing their preparedness to tackle emergencies during the elections.
To further enhance readiness, Meralco will deploy generator sets and floodlights in key areas, ensuring continuous power supply in strategic locations. Crews will be on standby 24/7 throughout the election process, ready to respond to any power interruptions.
Since November 2024, Meralco has been working closely with COMELEC to coordinate efforts and ensure a smooth, uninterrupted voting experience. The company recognizes the critical role electricity plays in ensuring a successful and fair election, underscoring its commitment to supporting the democratic process.
