Metro Retail Stores Group, Inc. (MRSGI) is optimistic about the future of retail in the Visayas, where it is leveraging strategic partnerships with local and provincial governments to capitalize on economic growth and foster community development.
With key projects underway in Leyte-Samar and Negros Occidental, MRSGI is expanding modern retail access in underserved areas, contributing to both economic and regional infrastructure development.
“We are excited to bring modern retail services to communities that have long been underserved,” said Manuel Alberto, president and chief operating officer of MRSGI. “As economies in regions like Negros Occidental and Eastern Samar continue to grow, we are capitalizing on these opportunities by expanding our retail footprint and creating hubs that provide jobs, services, and long-term economic benefits.”
A notable project in Samar, the Catbalogan development, is being implemented through a Joint Venture Agreement with the provincial government. The initial phase includes a two-story retail building with a supermarket and compact department store, set to expand into a multi-story mall. Additionally, a convention center, government center, and transport terminal have already been completed, strengthening the region’s infrastructure. A hotel is also planned to become a flagship destination, further boosting tourism and local economic growth.
In Negros Occidental, MRSGI has partnered with the local government of Hinigaran in a Public-Private Partnership to develop a 6,000-square-meter retail complex. This facility will cater to a population of nearly 100,000, featuring retail spaces, a supermarket, a lifestyle section, and convenient access to a bus terminal, ensuring the community’s retail needs are met without the need to travel far.
These projects reflect MRSGI’s commitment to driving regional economic growth and enhancing the retail experience across the Visayas.
