Aboitiz Power unit to mothball 2 power barges

Aboitiz Power Corp. said Friday that one of its power generation unit has secured regulatory approval to mothball two power barges.

It said that Therma Mobile, Inc. has received a Letter for Confirmation from the Department of Energy for the mothballing of two of its Bunker C-fired power barges, TMO Mobile 4 and Mobile 6. The power barges, located at the Navotas Fishport Complex in Metro Manila, will be taken offline effective February 14, with plans to return to service by February 1, 2027.

The DOE issued the LOC after TMO submitted a letter of intent to mothball the barges, citing technical and commercial challenges that hindered their full utilization and efficient operation. The decision is in accordance with the DOE’s Implementing Guidelines for the decommissioning and mothballing of generating plants.

Notices regarding the LOC have been distributed to key entities, including the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP), the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

Despite the mothballing, TMO’s operations will continue without disruption through its remaining power barges, TMO Mobile 3 and Mobile 5, which will remain fully operational.
