Aboitiz affiliate’s solar project set for scoping in Negros Occidental

Aboitiz Power Corp.’s renewable energy arm is moving forward with a major solar initiative in Negros Occidental, which will significantly bolster the country’s green energy sector. South Cleanergy Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz Renewables Inc., on Sunday announced that its Luna solar power project will hold a public scoping session on 18 February.

The project, valued at P13.85 billion, will feature a solar facility capable of generating 239.56 megawatts (MW) of power in tandem with a 306 megawatt-hour battery storage component. This development is a critical part of Aboitiz’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy (RE) capacity.

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Environmental Management Bureau filings, the funds cover a wide range of essential activities, including feasibility studies, engineering design, government permits, environmental management, and pollution control systems. Additionally, the project will create thousands of job opportunities, with 1,000 workers needed during peak construction and 200 on average during the build-out phase.

The construction of the Luna solar project is slated to begin in early 2026, with commercial operations projected to start in the fourth quarter of 2027.

This development aligns with Aboitiz Power’s ambitious goal to add 3,600 MW of new renewable energy capacity by 2030, positioning the company to meet growing national energy demands and play a pivotal role in the country’s transition to sustainable power sources.
