The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has greenlit four significant transmission projects by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), totaling over P5 billion. This development underscores NGCP’s commitment to addressing the nation’s growing power needs, while enhancing grid reliability and reducing power interruptions.
In a notice released on 12 February 2025, the ERC announced the approval of these vital infrastructure initiatives designed to alleviate overloading and improve service across key regions.
The largest of the projects is the P1.94 billion Granada 230 kV substation in Bacolod, expected to be completed by 31 August 2028. This facility will address transformer overloading at the Bacolod substation and provide an additional connection point to support customers in Negros Occidental, mitigating load curtailment and power interruptions.
Next in line is the 138-kV, P1.36 billion Sumangga substation aimed at resolving issues with the 69-kV Ormoc-Baybay line in Leyte. With a completion deadline set for 31 March 2028, the project will reduce transformer load in Ormoc and provide crucial contingency measures to prevent power disruptions.
The third project is the 138-kV P1.13 billion La Carlota substation in Negros Occidental, slated for completion by August 31, 2028. This initiative addresses overloading on the Bacolod-San Enrique 69 kV line, improving power reliability across the region.
Finally, the 69-kV, P584 million Nagsaag-Tumana transmission line with a 30 November 2025 deadline, will boost transmission capacity in Eastern Pangasinan, easing the load on the existing Nagsaag-Umingan line and meeting growing demand.
These projects highlight NGCP’s ongoing effort to modernize and expand the country’s transmission network, ensuring more reliable power delivery and supporting continued economic growth.
