DigiPlus investing P3B this year, eyes Brazil expansion

DigiPlus Interactive Corp., a key player in the domestic e-gaming sector, is set to spend between P2.5 billion to P3 billion as capital expenditures this year, with a significant portion earmarked for its venture in Brazil. Company vice president for investor relations, Celeste Jovenir, confirmed that the budget includes a P660 million initial investment for the Brazilian market, alongside funds for IT infrastructure upgrades and facility renovations.

The capital allocation aligns with DigiPlus’ expansion strategy as e-gaming continues its rapid growth in the Philippines. According to stockbroker Unicapital Securities, other licensees of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) saw a major increase in gross gaming revenue, with contributions rising from 20 percent in 2023 to 42 percent in 2024. This surge is largely attributed to the increasing adoption of digital betting apps and the expanding footprint of e-gaming activities.

DigiPlus has been capitalizing on this trend, boasting an expanding base of active betting users. Company chairman, Eusebio Tanco, expressed optimism for continued growth, citing a doubling of their user base in 2024 to 40 million users, up from 20 million in 2023. He believes this momentum will continue, though at a potentially slower rate.

Looking to the future, DigiPlus has its sights set on its Brazilian venture, which is expected to serve as a long-term growth catalyst. Its entry into Brazil’s online sports betting and gaming market, scheduled for 4Q25, could unlock new revenue streams. In January, DigiPlus secured a coveted license to operate both land-based and online sports betting, live game studios, and fixed-odds betting activities in Brazil, a country with a massive sports betting audience, particularly for soccer.

The Brazil expansion is expected to leverage DigiPlus’ online platform, ArenaPlus, to cater to a rapidly growing market. With only a select few licenses granted, DigiPlus is well-positioned to tap into Brazil’s e-gaming boom, adding a critical new dimension to its business strategy.
